International Conference on the Cancellation of Illegitimate Debts

It aims to bring together 100 participants from civil society organisations, social movements, government and creditor agency representatives for a discussion of the extent and impact of illegitimate debts and odious debts on the peoples of many southern countries.
The conference also aims to highlight the impact of dictatorship debts incurred by the dictators Marcos and Suharto, among the poor of the Philippines and Indonesia.

INDONESIA: Thousands of poor demand cash assistance

On March 15, at least 2000 poor people, most of them housewives, rallied outside the office of the minister for people's welfare, before marching to the presidential palace and the Jakarta governor's office, to demand that the poor receive the payment of direct cash assistance (BLT) as compensation fuel price increases for all those living on incomes of less than $2 a day.
