ARENA is co-hosting 2006 Asian Civil Society Education Forum in Seoul in November as one of its first joint activities with Korean partners. This forum is jointly organised by Korean Association for Non-governmental Organisation Studies, Korean Association of Non-Profit Organisation Research, and Graduate School of NGO Studies in SungKongHoe University. Speakers and participants are invited from 15 countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The objective of this meeting will be to share experiences in carrying out civil society education in each organizations/institutions in Asia. This forum is expected to re-convene each year for two years with a view to creating a civil society education network in the region. This forum will be an opportunity to exchange information of education on civil society conducted at university level or by NGOs jointly with an educational institution, to exchange the key agenda that civil society groups highlight and reflect in their education programmes, and to build a working relationship among such institutions.

Confirmed programme and participants will be posted here shortly.

You will find this under the section: Library Catalogue - now under construction and will be ready by 1st August 2006. Many thanks to Dennis Jorolan for completing this gigantic task! Those of you who have been part of the War, Militarism and Peace - Human Security workshop held in BKK end of last May, would know Dennis. We are  very grateful to him for being our Documentalist and Rapporteur for the workshop. Through his efficient and highly professional work; the Interim Programme Report  for the WMP is now completed and will be uploaded onto our website shortly.

Dear Friends

I am honored and overwhelmed to get this opportunity to speak before you. Many people say that we are now living in a unipolar world. I don’t subscribe to this notion. I believe we are living in a bipolar world. At the one side, we see global hegemonic forces connected with each other through visible and invisible strings; on the other side there is a growing superpower, ‘the world public opinion’. We need to nourish it, promote it and sharpen it.
