A Call for the Campaign Against Exploitative Migration and Human Trafficking: Towards Just and Sustainable Development
ARENA decided to join the IMADR appeal, A call for the Campaign Against Exploitative Migration and Human Trafficking. Full text is below.
Exploitative migration caused by neo-liberal globalization
Nowadays, neo-liberal globalization tends to be increasingly feminized and informalized, due to the polarization of the global economy where the rich get richer and the poor poorer. This is one of the root causes of exploitative migration including human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Gwangju International Peace Forum / East Asian Human Rights Forum 2007
Members of ARENA MAINS Curriculum Development Project, Dessa Quesada, Francis Loh, Mohiuddin Ahmad, Hilmar Farid, and Francis Lee, participated in the event (MAINS is an MA course in SKH University in Korea offered by ARENA and the hosting university).
On April 19, 2007, ARENA co-hosted “Migration and Marriage in Asia,” a workshop aimed at raising awareness about the marriage migration phenomenon in Vietnam, while building partnerships with local Vietnamese NGOS and other international organizations. ARENA Program Convener (“Three-year cooperation among marriage-migrant groups for new citizenship of marriage-migrant women in Asia--Marriage Migration in Asia”) Le Thi Quy first initiated the event in coordination with the Center for Gender and Development (RCGAD) and Hanoi University for Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH). The workshop was part of ARENA’s Marriage Migration in Asia program, the first of its kind to be held in Vietnam on the marriage migration issue.
