WELCOME to the maiden issue of MAINStreaming Issues, the newsletter of the students of Master of Arts in Inter-Asia NGO Studies (MAINS). This issue is devoted to share the different point of views of the students of MAINS on the issue of globalization.
Through this newsletter (though it is a work in progress), we hope to communicate with the Sungkonghoe community about diverse issues that we discuss, analyze and debate upon in our classes. There are cross cutting issues that affect the lives of the ordinary people on a daily basis. Issues such as gender, race and class exploitation, external debt, labor migration, democratization and human rights, to name a few , have varying effects given the diverse political economy and socio-cultural context of Asia. We hope we can contribute in mainstreaming these issues in our own little way.
We are not only scholars of this university but also agents of social change in our own countries (Bangladesh, Burma, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Sri Lanka) who are confronted with the realities of these issues and together, we can make a difference. — Jessica —
