REPEAL PRESIDENTIAL
PROCLAMATION NO. 1017 (STATE OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY)!
IMMEDIATE &
UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE FOR REP. CRISPIN BELTRAN!
DEFEND CIVIL LIBERTIES AND
DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS, NEVER AGAIN TO MARTIAL RULE!
Because of recent developments, we have some minor changes in our demands.
First, as Rep. Joel Virador was placed under the custody of the House of
Representatives, he is no longer under the hands of the Criminal Investigation
and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police
(PNP).
However, the CIDG-PNP forwarded to the Department of Justice two
lists containing the names of 59 individuals who are being charged of rebellion
and insurrection, non bailable offences under the Revised Penal Code of the
Philippines, can be arrested without warrant and is punishable by life
imprisonment if found guilty.
The lists include legislators from
progressive partylists such as Reps. Crispin Beltran and Rafael Mariano of
Anakpawis (Toiling Masses) Party, Reps. Satur Ocampo, Teddy Casino and Joel
Virador of Bayan Muna (People First) Party, and Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela
Women's Party. All five except Rep. Beltran who is already in the custody of the
police, are to be arrested by the CIDG-PNP anytime soon.
For this reason,
we decided to add in the first demand the words "desist from arresting
legislators from progressive parties".
We are again circulating this
letter and soliciting your support by signing the said letter to be submitted to
the Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General before the protest action
tomorrow ends. Please let us know if you wish to be included in the signatories
before 11:30 am.
