Thailand political turmoil? Print
Written by Junya Yimprasert, Coordinator of Thai Labour Campaign

Dear friends,

The situation right now in Thailand is seem to guide to only two solutions
at the moment; to choose between, either 'the Corrupted Capitalist
[Thaksin] government', or requesting 'His Majesty' to appoint an acting
prime minister’.
Not long ago, from 17-19 May 1992, hundred thousands of people in Thailand
demonstrated against 'Coup's General Prime Ministry', 48 people were
killed in the violence suppression by the militaries' General. In an
exchange for him to step down, the general was amnasty and he is still
carry high status in Thai society. The May Bloodshed leads to the becoming
of the current National Constitution, which one of the article stating
that "The Prime Minister" must come from election.

However, 14 years after the May Bloodshed, Thailand can be said, for the
first time, facing with the real 'Absolute ['Corrupted' but ‘Elected’]
Capitalist Prime Minister'. After five years of his aggressively making
profit out of his position, we are so fed up with him, too.

Do we have no other choices else in the democratic system, apart from this
two solutions?

It is a big question to many of us and it seems that the current confusion
and flow of anger toward Thaksin, open up for the conservatives and right
wing position, which is seem that they will win.

I will send you a couple of articles which is showing pictures of the
situation in Thailand right now. I apologize for sending big mail, just
hope that this will help you a bit to see how the situation in Thailand
right now is? I have written an article from the labour activist point of
view as well, but it is in Thai and I have no time to translate to
English.

In solidarity,

Lek
