RESOLUTION ADOPTED AT THE PARTI SOSIALIS MALAYSIA(PSM) Print
Written by PARTI SOSIALIS MALAYSIA(PSM)
Tuesday, 06 June 2006
1. The Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) strongly condemns the brutal attack by the police on peaceful demonstrators at the KLCC on 8 May 2006 over their protest against the price increases of oil and electricity. The PSM demands that the government immediately sets up the IPCMC (Independent Police Complaint and Misconduct Commission).

2. Demands that the government immediately registers the PSM and upholds Article 10 of the Federal Constitution on the Freedom of Association.

3. The PSM demands that the Malaysian government puts a halt to the Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the United States because any such agreement will undermine workers rights and have disastrous implications on Malaysia.

4. The government must stop all plans and measures to privatize healthcare services. The health of the rakyat is not for sale!

5. The PSM opposes all neo-liberal policies such as the privatization of basic amenities (water, electricity), Goods and Services Tax and the relaxation of labour laws, all of which are openly propagated by the nation¡¦s foremost disciple of neo-liberalism, the Prime Minister Datuk Sri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

6. Nationalize all toll-collection highways in the country and channel the money into upgrading public transport.

7. The oil resources of the country should be fully nationalized. Returns from the oil must be declared to the public and utilised for the welfare of the people.

8. Abolish all draconian laws that violate basic human rights such as the ISA, OSA, AUKU, EO, PPPA. Immediately and unconditionally release all detainees.

9. Introduce and institute the practice of proportional representation in Parliament based on the ratio of votes obtained in the general elections.

10. Introduce pension benefits for the elderly to help them meet living costs.

11. Broaden democracy and the people¡¦s right to vote by reducing the voting age from 21 to 18.

12. The PSM fully supports the demands of the Oppressed People¡¦s Network (JERIT), in particular the demands for a  minimum wage act and housing or land rights, and opposes forced eviction.

13. The PSM condemns the privatization of primary and secondary school education and the government¡¦s moves to promote international schools as a business.

14. The PSM strongly opposes capitalist globalisation which exploits the working class of the world, and which is led by neoliberal agencies such as the WTO, the IMF, the World Bank, multinational companies and FTAs. The PSM also supports the heroic struggles of the working people of the world to build  a new world free from class exploitation and the initiative to build socialist partnerships to fight imperialism, such as the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America Agreement (ALBA) initiated by Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia.

15. The PSM demands that the government amends all laws that discriminate against migrant workers and demands that migrant workers are not discriminated against or harassed. The government must ensure their health and well being are always protected.
