In an election ordered by the Hon'ble Delhi High Court the Delhi State Electricity Workers Union led by Gen. Secy. Kuldeep Kumar, affiliated to the Joint Action Committee of Delhi Eloectricity Employees and Engineers (Delhi Vidyut Karamchari aur abiyanta Sanyukt Morcha) got 83.9 % of the votes polled.
Total No of employees 10,758 Total No who cast their vote 9,034 Total No of votes for Kuleep 7,580 Kumar and candidates
When Delhi State Electricity Board was handed over to the Private Firms the leadership of the Union betrayed the workers, supported the privatisation and signed a Tripartite Agreement.
The Chief Minister, the private firms and bureaucracy refused to recognise the Joint Action Committee and the Kulpeed Kumar faction. They continued to claim that the blacklegs represented the workers and held Tripartite meetings. For three years the true represntative of the employees struggled in all the forums.
Finally the court ordered an election not just for the Gen. Secy's post but direct election for the entire 42 member executive committee. The faction which had betrayed the employees and was in leauge with the private firms and the Chief Minister have bitten dust.
This is a overwhelming vote against privatisation, against those who betray workers, against the Chief Minister and her arrogance.
We pledge to fight against privatisation in Delhi.
