Currently completing her doctoral thesis on the trafficking of women from Nepal to the sex sector in Mumbai, India at the Institute of Development Studies, United Kingdom, Meena obtained her MA degree on Gender and Development Studies form the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex.

Meena is a regular contributor to a bi-monthly column for four years entitled The Flip Side on the question of sustainable development for NICs, and her journalistic experience are in the fields of reporting, communications training and media research. She has engaged in research, training/teaching and consultancy work on gender and development issues and trafficking in women and sex work. Consultancy work mainly revolved around women and media issues.

From 1993 – 1998, Meena served as researcher for the Asian and Pacific Development Centre’s Gender and Development Programme. Her involvement with APDC based in Kuala Lumpur focused on preparatory work and post-Beijing Implementation and Monitoring of its Platform for Action. Prior to APDC, Meena was Research and Executive Director of AWARE.

Meena is a member of the ARENA Editorial Committee
