A Senior Artist-Trainer of the Philippine Education Theater Association (PETA), Dessa is also a member of the Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation and the Asian Rural Alternatives. From 1976, Dessa has been engaging in artistic work as an actress, singer and mover for the theater productions of PETA, UP Repertory and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Among the countries she has engaged in artistic work are the Philippines, Japan and the US. She actively involves herself in artistic/cultural activities and the academe.
She obtained her MA in Political Science with a certificate in International Affairs at the New School for Social Research in New York City as a recipient of the Fullbright Grant and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics graduating cum laude from the University of the Philippines. Dessa’s points of interests are around the issues of democracy, feminism, social movements, alternative education, rural transitions and youth empowerment.
Dessa was a member of the ARENA Executive Boards 1997 – 2000 and 2000 – 2003.
