DAI Jinhua

Supervisor of doctoral candidates at the Institute of Comparative Literature and Comparative Culture of the Peking University, Dai has been associated with the university since 1982. She first taught at the Department of Literature, Peking Film Academy and was later on appointed Associate Professor in 1992.

Dai has delivered lectures on Chinese film and popular culture in many universities worldwide and was Visiting Professor of the Ohio State University where she taught intensive summer courses. Apart from the dozens of essays she has come out with, she has published eight books in Chinese on women's literature, film theory and critique, contemporary cultural writing and studies and cultural politics. She actively does Chinese translation on film theory and critique.

Dai is one of China's most influential theoreticians and cultural critics. A feminist Marxist, film scholar, cultural and media critic as well as a public intellectual, she has over the last decade, addressed multiple and expanding audiences in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan who are familiar with her literary, film, TV and popular cultural criticism, as well as international feminists in Europe, Japan and the United States who are increasingly being drawn to her incisive cultural criticism.
