Dr. Songwoo Hur, formerly, a Research Professor at the Democracy and Social Movement Institute (DaSMI) in SungKongHoe University, seoul; is now a Lecturer at the Graduate of NGO Studies at the same University.

Apart from her academic engagement, she has also been an active participant in grass women's movement in South Korea since 1980's. She is also involved with Korean Women's Movement Associations United (KWAU) and Korean Women's Hotline. Her area of research interest is gender studies and she did her Phd in Gender studies from University of Sussex, United Kingdom in 2006. Presently, she is researching on grassroot women's movement in the context of globalization and democratization in South Korea.
