President
of the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, KK has been associated with people's
science movements in India for almost three decades, initially with the
Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) where he held various posts over
the years including, its president. He was Director of Kerala's overwhelmingly
successful Total Literacy Campaign in 1988-90 and now spearheads literacy
campaigns in several districts across India.
KK, who returned to Kerala after a decade of living in the capital, thinks
of himself as a field activist, is a marvelous organiser. He has a degree
in mechanical engineering but took up journalism and mass communication
later. He has authored and edited several books and journals on popular
science, ecology and development, but his favourite occupation is working
with children for whom he writes poetry, skits and songs and also performs
with them.
His interests range from education, local governance to cultural activities
among children. He also coordinates activities related to the Asian Social
Forum within the AIPSN and the BGVS. KK is at present Assistant Director
of the State Institute of Languages in Trivandrum, Kerala.
