Editor-in-chief of the weekly, Sol, Jung Ok has been a strong supporter of the democratic movement in Korea since the late 70s. Her main interests and work revolve around gender, alternative development and peace. She is Co-representative of the Korean House for International Solidarity and an Organising Committee Member of the PSPD. Fomerly a Professor at the Hyosung Catholic University, now Jung-ok teaches at Daegu Catholic University in Korea. As trainer, Jung Ok educates Korean NGO activists by furthering their understanding on globalisation issues and deepening democracy struggles. She promotes alliance building between NGOs and trade unions, gender, democracy and global governance and peace and security particularly in Northeast Asia. She obtained her PhD, MA and BA courses from the Seoul National University and has published several books such as Gender Issues and the Changes in Family Relations, 1998, Sociology for Gender Equity, 1993. Among the papers she has also contributed in English are People's Alliance in the Age of Globalisation: Sustaining Ecology, Equity and Plurality for the ARENA publication, Asian Exchange and Poverty and Gender, not to be Ashamed of for the Paper Collections, No. 49, Association of Korean Social History, 1996. Jung Ok was a member of the ARENA Executive Board 1994 - 1997 and currently she is the co-chair of ARENA council of fellows. |
