Appointed as the first director of the Asia-Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding in December 2000 by the Ministry of Education in Korea and the UNESCO, he was an active participant to the peace and unification movement in the churches and civil society in Korea. He was professor in the SoongSil University in Seoul for 19 years and taught on social philosophy, history, the philosophy of peace and critical theories of Frankfurter school. His points of interests are mainly peace-related issues and in 1998 he was elected as Chairman of the Social Science Committee of UNESCO Korea. Currently, Samuel is the incumbent central and executive committee member of the World Council of Churches and was elected at the 8th General Assembly of the WCC in Harare, Zimbabwe. Since 1999, Lee has served as the Chairman of International Committee of Korean National Council of Churches. A peace advocate in search of alternatives and methods in the promotion of peace education, Samuel is publisher of the quarterly magazines Sang Saeng and Education for International Understanding. To date, he has come out with 6 books and edited 8 books in total on topics ranging from philosophical thought, peace and the praxis of unification, social development and social movement and theology. Samuel was a former member of the Editorial Committee. |
