Director of the DPRK Ministry, Asia-Pacific Regional Office of the World Vision International (2003), Jae-shik received several awards including the ¡®Order of Civil Merit - Moran Medal¡¯ of the Republic of Korea in 2002 and the ¡®Distinguished Alumni Award¡¯ at the Yale University Divinity School, USA. From 1997 - 2002, Jae-shik served as Executive Director of World Vision Korea. In his capacity Jae-shik mobilized World Vision Partnership to help the children and the vulnerable in North Korea through relief work and development projects. From 1994 - 1996, Jae-shik served as Director of the Social Education Institute of the Korea Christian Academy in Seoul and established the Korea Chapter of the Global Action Plan (GAP) which was launched at the Rio de Janeiro Summit on Environment in 1992. In addition to this, he also established a working group on peace education to develop materials and methodology on education for peace making. An active participant of the Christian Student Movement in Korea, he worked for the YMCA, the Korean Student Christian Federation, the Christian Conference of Asia, the National Council of Churches in Korea and the World Council of Churches in Geneva. Jae-shik has organized and attended numerous conferences, consultations,
seminars, workshops and training programmes over his past 40 years of
service in the Ecumenical Movement and has published many articles and
edited many books, reports and pamphlets on environmental issues. |
